For generations, artists have used pastels outdoors to capture fleeting light, color, and atmosphere. Held on my homestead just before golden hour, participants can choose from seven garden areas bursting with color. This is the ultimate setting for an en plein air experience: a flower meadow, tea house, blooming gardens, and free-range chickens provide no shortage of inspiration as the evening light begins to glow. We'll start with an introduction to the unique qualities of pastels, review of materials, and simple techniques for working outdoors before participants settle into a favorite spot and respond to the abundance of color all around them. There are many comfortable places to sit on the grounds, and clipboards and a few easels will be provided.
